The Public Distribution System (PDS) plays an important role in the provision of food security. The documents in this section provide a first glimpse of the system and the issues it raises with respect to the Right to Food Campaign.

• The Ministry for Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution constituted a Central Vigilance Committee under the Chairmanship of Justice D. P. Wadhwa (with the assistance of the Commissioner, Dr. N. C. Saxena) to inquire into what ails the Public Distribution System and suggest remedial measures. The Committee circulated the following public notice inviting people and organizations to comment on the PDS. Here is the executive summary of the report.
